- Full-time and part-time options.
- One to two years of experience in a veterinary or animal care setting preferred, or equivalent training and experience.
- Veterinary Assistants play a key role in the day-to-day operations of a veterinary clinic. Accordingly, punctuality and reliability are essential.
- Veterinary Assistants serve as a second set of eyes for the Veterinarians and other staff. Emerging concerns regarding a patient's health may be noticed first by a Veterinary Assistant. Accordingly, veterinary assistants must have a keen orientation in detail, work well both independently and under guidance, and demonstrate initiative in completing daily tasks. Following through on detailed instructions is also essential.
- Daily tasks include directly assisting the Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians during medical procedures and exams; administering medications (including via subcutaneous injection after training); preparing prescription medications and other supplies; frequently documenting patients' progress, care, and observations in electronic medical records software; preparing and analyzing lab samples and diagnostic tests; monitoring patients; transporting animals to and from kennels, exam rooms, the lobby, and clients' vehicles; assisting with kennel duties such as feeding and walking; assisting with pet grooming and bathing; sanitation and janitorial duties throughout the facility; informing the Veterinarians of suspected medical concerns; etc.
